Brigitte Heimers

Dr. Heimers received a Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside with a specialization in 20th Century Austrian Literature.

She teaches intermediate language as well as upper-division courses in composition, culture and civilization, and literature.

Beatriz Lado, Associate Professor, Language Coordinator

Dr. Lado received her Licenciatura in English Philology from the University of Valencia; an M.A. in English from Northwestern State University; an M.A. in Linguistics from Louisiana State University; and an M.S. in Spanish Linguistics from Georgetown University, where she also received her Ph.D. in Spanish Applied Linguistics.

She will be coordinating the core requirement classes in all languages taught at USD.

Her research interests include the interaction between external (e.g., type of feedback and degree of explicitness in pedagogical interventions) and internal variables (e.g., prior language experience and cognitive capacity) in the development of a non-primary language. Her other interests include the effects of verbalizing while performing a task to learn a second language (i.e., reactivity), the effects of CMC interaction on language learning, and the role of explicit and implicit language policies.

Christiane Staninger

Dr. Staninger is the Coordinator of the German Section. Educated at the Univesity of Goettingen in Germany, she also holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in German Literature from the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Staninger serves as the Course-Chair for the German elementary language program. She teaches elementary and intermediate classes at USD, including third semester German in an intensive summer program in Salzburg, Austria.

Dr. Staninger is also the Director of the Intensive Language Model Program for French, German, Italian and Japanese.

Barbara Wrasidlo

Dr. Wrasidlo earned her doctorate in German Literture from the University of California, San Diego.

She teaches elementary and intermediate German classes at USD as well as German and Russian at local community colleges.
