Faculty of the Latin Program John W. Fendrick, Adjunct Associate Professor Dr. Fendrick received his Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Southern California. He has taught classical and modern languages on both the prep school and college levels since 1967. He teaches both Greek and Latin during the regular semester as well as Spanish and German in USD's summer study abroad programs. His research interests include Latin poetry (Ovid), ecclesiastical Latin, biblical Greek, and classical mythology. Santiago Rubio-Fernaz, Adjunct Associate Professor Dr. Rubio-Fernaz holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of California, San Diego, and received both his B.A. and M.A. in Classical Philology from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. He is a lecturer in elementary and intermediate Latin at USD and Mesa College. His research interests are Greek Epic, Classical Mythology, Ancient Medicine, and Greek Lexicography. He is the author of Higino: Mitología Clásica (Madrid: Editorial Coloquio, 1987) and Higino: Fábulas (Madrid: Ediciones Clásicas, 1997) and served as a member of the research and editorial team which published Diccionario Griego-Español , vol. V (Madrid: Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, 1997) and Diccionario Griego-Español , vol. VI (Madrid: Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, 2002). Dr. Rubio-Fernaz is also the Special Assistant to the Chair. In that capacity he serves the entire department as Director of Placement and Coordinator of Competency Examinations.
