Students must be awarded Federal Work-Study through their 2018-2019 Financial Aid award to be eligible to apply for the positions listed.  All positions are available for the academic year (fall and spring semesters) and located on the USD campus, unless otherwise noted.  The start date and weekly schedule will be determined at the time of hire.  Most positions offer the opportunity to work 10-15 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.  Students may be considered for positions with additional responsibilities and higher pay rates, depending on their skills and experience.

Job Title: Student Assistant

Political Science

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as general administrative support for students, faculty members, and other campus departments
  • Greet visitors and answer phone calls in a friendly and efficient manner.
  • Manage the department’s social media account, creating event flyers and organizing content for a bi-weekly newsletter
  • Assist the Executive Assistant with on-boarding newly declared majors, maintaining databases and confidential office files, delivering time-sensitive documents to various departments across campus, and other miscellaneous clerical tasks

Sociology

Job Title: Student Assistant I

Office of Sustainability

Job Title: Student Engagement Intern

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a liaison between the Office of Sustainability and various student-focused communities and groups on campus, including Residential Life, Living Learning Communities, Student Organizations and Clubs, and the Greek Life community. This intern aims to increase partnership development between the Office and these various campus communities
  • Coordinate the meetings and communication for the Sustainability Coalition, which is comprised of several sustainability-affiliated student organizations and groups on campus
  • Collaborate with Residential Life and LLC leaders (Community Directors and Resident Advisors, FSA and/or RFAs) to increase student engagement around sustainability
  • Assist with the development of sustainability-focused education/training, activities, and events
  • Keep student groups informed about sustainability programs, events, and initiatives
  • Assist groups with making and reaching sustainability goals
  • Schedule meetings with sustainability-affiliated student organizations
  • Keep meeting minutes for reporting and distribution
  • Keep coalition members informed of sustainability-related news, events, etc.
  • Actively encourage collaboration and networking amongst group members

Office of Sustainability

Responsibilities:

  • Support the creation and implementation of sustainable initiatives for/at USD, in collaboration with the University’s Sustainability Director, Sustainability Coordinator, and Climate and Energy Manger
  • Collaborate with the other office interns in support of their projects
  • Develop ideas to influence the student population to engage in sustainability issues. This may include developing a plan to reach out to the student body and work with students to assess needs, disseminate sustainability plans and initiatives, as well as create new initiatives
  • Manage the general sustainability e-mail account and assisting with administrative needs of the office

Office of Undergraduate Admissions

Responsibilities:

  • Welcomes visitors to Manchester Hall for either the Office of Admissions or directing to the Career Development Center
  • Maintains front desk and reception area
  • Assists Counselor of the Day in front desk responsibilities, such as checking-in tour guests, interacting with prospective students & families, organizing tour logistics – coding the showroom key, connecting & following up with tour guides and other necessary assigned duties
  • Assists reception team in answering incoming phone calls and providing excellent service to our callers
  • Assists in data entry of prospective student recruit records
  • Assists in the responsibilities associated with application processing, such as copying, faxing and scanning admissions documents

  • Work with USD departments and community organizations to lead and coordinate activities (i.e., tours, fairs, community events)

  • Provide reception and clerical support to the departments comprising University Advancement (the Office of the Vice President; Advancement Services; Alumni, Donor, Foundation, Int’l Constituent, and Parent & Family Relations; Annual and Planned Giving; Development; Marketing; University Communications; Publications; Special Gifts; and University Events and Promotions).
  • Clerical support includes answering phones; greeting visitors to the office; sorting, folding, and labeling various mailings; filing; data entry and export; shredding; running errands; and helping to staff events.

University Center Operations
