USD is the owner of these loans and is responsible for the disbursement and collection of all funds related to them.
What is my account number?
Your account number is your USD ID #.
How often do I get a statement?
Statements are sent directly from ECSl once a month. You can also sign up for e-billing for the convenience of receiving electronic statements. If you are already set up on ACH, you will receive one audit statement a year on the anniversary of when you signed up for the program. To sign up for e-billing and ACH, go directly to the ECSI website at: http://www.ecsi.net.
To whom do I make my check payable and where do I send payment?
All checks should be made payable to USD and should include your account number written on your check. Payment should be mailed directly to :

In addition, payment needs to be mailed early in order to arrive by the due date, which is the first day of each month.
New: For borrowers who have busy schedules, payment can be made online at http://www.ecsi.net. You can also go online to set up an ACH account.
Will I be subject to a penalty charge if I choose to pay off some or all of my loan(s) early?
There are no prepayment penalties.
May I make payments on my loan(s) while the account is in a deferment status?
Yes, you may make payments while the account is in deferment without any penalties, but no billing statements will be sent to you while your account is deferred. All payments during the deferment period should be sent to the USD Loan Administration office as listed above. Please make sure your account number is clearly listed on your check.
New: You can now go online to http://www.ecsi.net to remit payment and at the same time see the status of your account.
How are my payments applied to my account?
Payments are applied first to satisfy any outstanding collections costs and late fees (if applicable), then to accrued interest, then to the outstanding principal balance.
If I change schools/enrollment status whom should I notify?
To update your enrollment status, please contact our office. We are available 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
If I should change my name/address/telephone number whom should I contact?
New: Whenever you change your name/address/telephone number you can now go to the ECSI website at http://www.ecsi.net and update your information. You can also contact the USD Loan Administration office at (619) 260-4130 to update your information.
If I received notice that my check or ACH was returned due to non-sufficient funds, will I be charged a returned check fee?
Yes. USD charges a $25 fee for each returned check or ACH.
Can I receive my transcripts upon request?
If a borrower has a past due balance with USD's Loan Administration office, a hold will be placed on his/her transcripts until the account becomes current.
Are my loans reported to credit bureaus?
Yes. Federal regulations require that the lending institution report student loans to a national credit bureau. The University of San Diego currently reports the status of all student loan accounts at the end of each month.
If I leave USD do I need to inform the Loan Administration?
Yes. If you withdraw, take a leave of absence or graduate, you are required to inform the Loan Administration office, as you need to complete an exit interview package. This exit interview should not be confused with the exit interview given by the Office of Financial Aid for other federally funded loan(s) such as the Stafford Loan.
