Join the IPJ's Spring Interns - Isabella Frediani, Carly Lutz, Ryan Samson, and Sarah Shotts - as they present on important dimensions of their work at the Institute from the past semester. Presentations will include a Q&A session for audience members to engage the students about their work and their internship experience.

  • "PJS 498: A Look at How an IPJ Internship Fits within the Peacebuilding and Social Innovation Minor" by Isabella Frediani - This presentation will explain why an internship at the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice should be a requirement for those undergraduate students pursuing a minor in Peacebuilding and Social Innovation (PBSI). After outlining the description and courses necessary for a PBSI minor, the presentation will describe the requirements of the internship in general terms, explain more specifically the internships available at the IPJ, and connect the positions to topics covered in other peace and justice courses. Finally Isabella will explore the reasons why this internship should be a requirement for graduating with the PBSI minor.
  • "A Conservative Feminist’s View on Peacebuilding" by Carly Lutz - An exploration of conservativism, its relationship to feminism, and the ways in which this intellectual orientation relates to the women, peace and security agenda.
  • "Digital Media: Accessing a Global Audience" by Ryan Samson - An investigation into the growing role that digital media can serve in the peacebuilding efforts of the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice. Beginning with a general overview defining digital media and looking at the forms of digital media the IPJ has utilized, the presentation will then explore in depth two particular digital platforms - Wordpress and Atavist - considering how each platform helps the institute to reach different audiences. Finally, Ryan will explore "peacebuilding as a global affair" and how working on digital media throughout his internship has furthered his understanding of this idea.
  • "The Role of Human Rights in Security" by Sarah Shotts - The relationship between security forces and human rights activists is often unclear and, occasionally, contentious. Using case study analysis, this presentation will expore the relationship between these two stakeholders and attempt to evaluate the best practices for creating and sustaining a secure and free country.
