On February 27, 2018, USD School of Law will be hosting a reception at the San Diego Bar Association as part of USD’s Harvey Levine Scholarship Fund to award this year’s Levine Advocacy Award to the evening’s keynote speaker, Mark P. Robinson, Jr.

Mark P. Robinson, Jr., is the founder, senior partner and sole shareholder of Robinson Calcagnie, Inc.  He has established a prominent legal practice devoted to consumer safety and has worked on thousands of product liability cases, including the landmark Ford Pinto case, which was recognized by the Association of Trial Lawyers of America as one of the ten most significant civil trails of the millennium.

Some of Robinson’s other significant trials include: Anderson v. General Motors, where a Los Angeles jury awarded $4.9 billion to burn victims in an automobile crash; Solorio v. Nissan, where a San Bernardino jury awarded $46 million to a stranded driver hit by another motorist; and, in August of 2017, Echeverria v. Johnson & Johnson, where a Los Angeles jury awarded $417 million to a woman who developed ovarian cancer from its talc powder based products.

Robinson also tried multiple cases with Harvey Levine, including Siu v. General Motors, with a judgment of $9.2 million in a product liability crashworthiness case in San Diego in 1986.

About Harvey Levine

Harvey Levine was a brilliant lawyer and a gifted professor at USD School of Law. Levine was committed to representing the little guys and was described as the "model for how a plaintiff's lawyer should be." He was selective with cases, lacked bombast in the court and put his client's interests first.

Levine successfully litigated countless cases during a nearly 40-year career, capped by membership in the state’s Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame.  He left an indelible mark on the San Diego legal community through his extensive trial work as well as his leadership as a legal professor at USD School of Law. Levine moved to San Diego and, at the age of 28-years-old, became one of the youngest professors at the University of San Diego School of Law, where he continued to teach for more than 20 years.

University of San Diego School of Law is a State Board of California-approved MCLE provider. This event has been approved for 1.0 hours of general credit.
