The panelists will discuss assorted issues surrounding foreclosure law from a variety of perspectives.

William A. Markham is a founding partner of Maldonado & Markham, LLP, where he practices civil litigation including lender representation in foreclosure matters and complex foreclosures. Mr. Markham received his law degree in 1987 from Harvard Law School. While there, he served as an editor and later as an associate editor of the Harvard International Law Journal. He also served as an adjunct professor of legal advocacy and legal writing at Hastings Law School, as well as an adjunct professor of constitutional law at Lincoln Law School.

Franco Simone is a San Diego attorney whose practice focuses on real estate law. Mr. Simone specializes in representing and advising landlords and purchasers of foreclosed properties with their various legal matters. He also assists and advises clients with respect to real estate and loan transactions. He is an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law, where he also earned his law degree. Mr. Simone also holds a MBA from the University of San Diego Graduate School of Business, graduating magna cum laude.

Bruce M. O'Brien is a State Bar of California certified specialist in taxation law and partner at Higgs, Fletcher & Mack, LLP. Mr. O’Brien’s practice involves all aspects of federal and state taxation, with particular emphasis on tax controversies, partnerships, limited liability companies, and business planning. His practice also includes estate planning, trusts and wills, and probate. Mr. O'Brien is a past chair of the taxation section of the San Diego County Bar Association. He is also the co-founder and past chair of the Tax Court Pro Se Taxpayer Program in San Diego, which provides pro bono legal services to taxpayers in tax court who are not represented by counsel.

Kevan P. McLaughlin is an attorney whose practice includes all areas of federal and California taxation, with a heavy focus on tax litigation and controversies. The San Diego Daily Transcript honored Mr. McLaughlin in 2010 as one of the top 46 young attorneys in the county.
