Dependency Counsel Training Program 201: Using Witnesses to Build Your Case.

This unique training opportunity, specifically for experienced Dependency Court attorneys, will provide insights and training on how to work with witnesses to extract and present the important information they have to provide, and how to effectively highlight where their opponents’ witnesses are inadequate or unreliable. Among other things, participants will learn how to determine if an expert is appropriate for a case; how to prepare witnesses for trial; how to qualify witnesses; the ten-step interview technique for interviewing children; how to qualify a child to testify in court; how to communicate with doctors to interpret their reports; what makes a doctor an expert; how to choose a professional with the expertise your case requires, and much more.  Distinguished speakers include Dr. Tom Lyon of the University of Southern California Law School; Leslie Heimov, Executive Director of the Children’s Law Center of Los Angeles; Candi Mayes, Executive Director of the Dependency Legal Group of San Diego; Christina Riehl, Senior Staff Attorney of the Children’s Advocacy Institute; Dr. Thomas Grogan, pediatric orthopedist, and many more.
