|Event Start Time||6:00 pm - 8:00 pm|
The Department of Ethnic Studies and MEChA invite you to a viewing of the recent documentary “The Longoria Affair.” This film tells the story of Felix Longoria who died while fighting in WWII – but his family was denied the use of their southern Texas town’s only funeral parlor because “the whites wouldn’t like it.” This set in motion a very important civil rights struggle that would permanently change the history of Mexican Americans in our nation and that till this day lives in the collective memory of its residents. It is a powerful lesson on racial relations in the heart of Texas.
The film was written and produced by the filmmaker John Valadez who will be present to speak about the importance of Longoria’s life in civil rights history.
