GenCyber Academy of Excellence Program (Beginner) Camp

In this one-week summer day camp, students going into grades 10-12 will participate in a number of hands-on-activities that will provide opportunities for them to learn and demonstrate their understanding of cyber security.  

Topics will include: Cyber Technologies - an introduction to hardware, software, networks, network architecture, operating systems, coding; What is Cyber Security? - definition and goals of cyber security, aspects of cyber security, building security in at the beginning, threats, vulnerabilities, risk, policy, mechanism, assurance, Reference Monitor, personal security and safety; First Principles and Applications including domain separation, process isolation, resource encapsulation, modularity, least privilege, abstraction, data hiding, layering, conceptually simple, minimization; Cyber Security Mechanisms including technical, administrative, physical security controls, survey of common controls, cryptography, network security, operating system security, hardware security, application security, identification and authentication; Incident Management and Response including intrusion detection, forensics, monitoring, attack lifecycle, response teams, cyber investigations, network analysis, remediation AND Applied Cyber Operations and Ethics including applied defense and operation of cyber systems, red/blue team, testing of networks, intelligence gathering, threat modeling, vulnerability analysis, exploitation, reporting, ethics, online behavior, online safety. 

Application: Admission is through an application process, as space is limited.  Applications are due by May 19, 2017.

Course Fee: There is no cost to participate.  In order to stimulate learning and future professionals in this field, the United States National Security Agency (NSA) has awarded funding to the University of San Diego to cover all costs for the program.
