As a pre-med student, Dr. Savett attended a small liberal arts college.  In this talk, he will describe the impact of that undergraduate experience on his life as a physician and how he uses that experience to counsel pre-meds. He will address some of the joys and dilemmas of being a physician, the significance of the doctor-patient relationship, the importance of language and communication in medicine, and the importance of personal and professional values.

Dr. Savett, author of "The Human Side of Medicine: Learning What it's Like to be a Patient and What It's Like to be a Physician" practiced primary care internal medicine for 30 years, and he has served on the Admissions Committee of the University of Minnesota Medical School, where he taught medical students, interns and residents.
