Amidst the backdrop of one of the most divisive political elections in modern times, nationally recognized author Mark Gerzon will appear at the University of San Diego to discuss The Reunited States of America: How We Can Bridge the Partisan Divide. This free and important community conversation is co-sponsored by the Institute for Civil Civic Discourse, the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership & Educational Studies and School of Peace Studies, ChangeMaker Hub and the League of Women Voters San Diego and San Diego North County. The event is being held as an afternoon session Restoring Respect's 5th Annual Conference being held April 18 at USD. The morning session of the free conference is being held in the theater of the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice from 9am-noon with the and the afternoon session with Mark Gerzon will be held across the street in the Warren Auditorium of the School of Leadership and Educational Studies from 2pm-3:30pm.
Gerzon is the Founder and President of Mediators Foundation an author, leadership consultant, and veteran convener of cross-party conversations. In the twenty years since he co-designed and facilitated the first US House of Representatives Bipartisan Congressional Retreat, he has been on the frontier of Democratic-Republican dialogues. His book Leading Through Conflict: How Successful Leaders Transform Differences Into Opportunities (published in 2006 by Harvard Business School Press) shares some of his key "transpartisan" learnings. Noted San Diego author and facilitator Ken Druck will moderate the event.
