Celebrate 25 Years of CAI

The Children’s Advocacy Institute’s (CAI) 25th Anniversary Celebration and Silent Auction will provide an opportunity to reflect upon the many ways in which CAI’s academic program and policy advocacy have improved the health and well-being of children and youth since 1989. It will also allow guests to join CAI in creating a legacy for our children and honoring special friends and supporters who share CAI’s commitment to enhancing the status of children in our society — including Congresswoman Susan Davis, whose commitment to children’s issues such as education and youth mentoring is unmatched.

Guests, who will include prominent professionals from the fields of law, medicine, education, and social welfare, as well as many of the area’s most prominent corporate, philanthropic and community leaders, will be among the first to hear exciting news about a recent development at the USD School of Law that will greatly enhance the field of child advocacy for years to come—the creation of a USD School of Law Chair in Child Rights.

Proceeds from the event will support CAI’s future work to protect and promote the status of children through impact litigation, legislative and regulatory advocacy, and public education efforts at the local, state and federal levels.

About the Children's Advocacy Institute

Under the direction of Robert C. Fellmeth, Price Professor of Public Interest Law at the USD School of Law and CAI Executive Director, CAI has evolved into one of the nation’s premiere academic, research, and advocacy organizations working to improve the lives of children and youth. CAI’s advocacy encompasses all issues that impact children, with special emphasis on improving the child protection, dependency court, and foster care systems, while enhancing resources that are available to youth aging out of foster care. In its academic component, CAI prepares law students and attorneys to be the next generation of child advocates, to ensure that children and youth will always have strong, passionate voices representing their interests.

In its research and advocacy components, conducted through its offices in San Diego, Sacramento, and Washington, D.C., CAI seeks to leverage change for children and youth through impact litigation, regulatory and legislative advocacy, and public education. Active at the local, state, and federal levels, CAI’s efforts are multi-faceted—comprehensively and successfully embracing all tools of public interest advocacy to put children’s issues on the public agenda and improve policies and programs that serve children and youth.
