The University of San Diego hosts the Ninth Annual Summer Chamber Music Festival from June 29 to July 6, bringing the sounds of Bach, Telemann, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Dvorak and other to its beautiful campus.

Directed by USD Music faculty Dr. Angela Yeung, the festival provides a unique opportunity for musicians of all ages to make music together. The 2014 Festival includes 35 musicians, from the youngest who is eight to half a dozen participants who are over 60. Festival coaches are faculty from the USD Music Department and members of the San Diego Symphony.

The Opening Faculty Concert takes place on Sunday, June 29 at 2 p.m. in the Shiley Theatre in Camino Hall. Works include Schubert’s String Trio D. 581, Halvorsen’s Sarabande con variazioni on a theme of Handel, and Mozart’s Sonata for Bassoon and Cello transcribed for Horn and Cello.

Lunchtime concerts will take place in La Gran Terraza in the University Center from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3 from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. The concert is free with a lunch purchase. The Participants Evening Concert is Thursday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the French Parlor in Founders Hall. Works include Pepusch’s Sonata, Schumann’s Märchenerzählungen Trio, Beethoven’s Serenade Op, 25, and Koechlin’s Epitaphe de Jean Harlow, and many more.

The two Final Participants Concerts featuring different programs are Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6, both at 2 p.m. in the Shiley Theatre in Camino Hall. Works include Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 by J.S. Bach, Sextet for 2 horns and strings by W.A. Mozart, String Octet by Wordemar Bargiel, Shooting Stars Galop for Piano 8-hands by Eduard Holst, and many more.

Tickets for all concerts except the lunchtime concerts are $12, general admission, and $10, students, seniors and USD employees and alumni. Tickets to the opening concert on June 29 include a 10 percent discount at La Gran Terraza during festival week. Attendees can receive a $2 discount by purchasing tickets for the two Final Participants Concerts.
