Jorge Camil Starr will discuss the role of technology and the tech sector on the culture of social enterprises. As Co-founder of Enova, a company using technology to close Mexico’s education gap, Mr. Camil will share his knowledge about the optimal uses of partnerships (NGO, Government and Corporate) when scaling social innovation models. He will also relay various “what-not-to-do” lessons to avoid pitfalls for future social entrepreneurs.

 

Speaker Biography:
Jorge Camil Starr is a Mexican-American social entrepreneur specializing in education, the environment and technology. He is co-founder and chief development officer of Enova, a social enterprise dedicated to creating innovative public solutions through the integration of technology and educational strategies. Enova’s principal project is the operation of cost-effective learning centers aimed at improving the educational performance of low-income Mexicans through blended-learning courses. Since May 2009, Enova’s 70 education centers have graduated over 100,000 students. Enova has been widely recognized as one of the most successful digital divide projects in Latin America by institutions such as OECD and the World Economic Forum. Over the past 11 years, Jorge Camil has worked extensively in Mexico’s developing technology sector, having founded PLC Networks, an innovative Broadband over Powerline start-up pioneering data, voice and video transmissions via electronic networks, and he has also co-founded LT Solutions S.A. de C.V., the exclusive distributer of N-computing for Mexico and Central America. Mr. Camil holds a double bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Administration from Pepperdine University, and is a fellow of the 2013 Ashoka Exchange at the University of San Diego.
