The University of San Diego will host Capt. Paul K. Chappell for a public talk entitled "Is World Peace Possible? - A Soldier's Perspective" in an event co-sponsored by The Department of Leadership Studies in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences, the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice, and the San Diego Veterans for Peace.

Capt. Chappell graduated from West Point in 2002 and served in the United States Army for seven years. He was deployed to Baghdad in 2006, and left active duty in November 2009 as a captain. He is the author of three popular books on the topic of war and peace in modern society. He lives in Santa Barbara, Calif., where he is serving as the peace leadership director for the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and working on his fourth book, The Art of Waging Peace: A Strategic Approach to Improving Our Lives and the World. He speaks throughout the country to colleges, high schools, veterans groups, churches, and activist organizations.
