Discrimination laws challenge overt targeting of marginalized groups, and yet the same stereotypes and hostility of the past are present in day to day interactions through joking and what theorists call microaggressions: “everyday subtle and often automatic putdowns and insults directed towards any marginalized group in our society.”

To make things even more complex, microaggressions are often perpetrated by well-intentioned people who nevertheless have learned time honored racial and social hierarchies. Join us for this presentation as we explore microaggressions through interactive exercises, lecture, and, most important, dialogue with students.
