Harriet Washington is medical writer, editor, and author of the award-winning book, Medical Apartheid: The Dark History of Medical Experimentation on Black Americans from Colonial Times to Present (2007) and Deadly Monopolies: The Shocking Corporate Takeover of Life Itself-And the Consequences for Your Health and Our Medical Future (2011).

The Labovitz Lecture Series honors Eugene Labovitz, Professor Emeritus of Sociology, faculty co-founder of the Ethnic Studies program and a guiding spirit of the United Front Multicultural Center at the University of San Diego. This annual lecture honors Dr. Labovitz’s contributions by bringing renowned scholars to the USD campus who as practitioners, theorists, and social action researchers, contribute to the field of Ethnic Studies. Each year a scholar/activist presents their work to and educates our students and the campus community on the importance of teaching and research on Ethnic Studies in higher education.

This event is co-sponsored by the Social Issues Conference, Center for Community Service-Learning, Center for Awareness, Service and Action, Center for Inclusion and Diversity, Office of the Provost, and Associated Students.
