China, Japan, and Korea are the top three markets in Asia today. China is expected to become larger than the US economy by 40% in 2050, in terms of purchasing power GDP, and Japan continues to be one of the major markets in the world. Korea, which has a Free Trade Agreement with US, also presents various business opportunities for US firms, either through trade or foreign direct investment. With the growing business opportunities in East Asia, many US companies have entered the market during the last few decades; however, only a few US companies have succeeded in East Asia. Many other US companies have either failed or struggled in those unfamiliar markets. One of the criticisms is that many US firms do not have thoroughly laid-out market entry strategies and local marketing plans. Also, many studies report that US managers are not well equipped with the appropriate cultural skills and understandings of East Asian countries, relative to managers from other countries. Without proper market entry strategies and understanding of the local market, consumers, and institutions, it is extremely difficult to find a successful business formula in East Asia. This seminar will focus three countries of East Asia, discussing various business opportunities, specific tools and strategic frameworks that will lead to success.

Note: This seminar can be taken as a whole, or participants can attend evenings of their regional interest.
