Film Screening: Al otro lado (To the Other Side)
Date and Time
Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The Trans-Border Institute will screen the film "Al otro lado" ("To the Other Side") by Mexican director Natalia Almada on Sept. 8, 2012, at 8 p.m. in the KIPJ Theater on USD's campus as part of a border region film series. The series, titled "Ambulante Border: New Perspectives on Gun Policy, Arms Trafficking, Violence and Immigration, Freedom of Expression, and Violence Towards Journalists," will take place from Sept. 6-9 in locations in Tijuana and San Diego in collaboration with the Ford Foundation, Mexican non-profit organization Ambulante, and PBS’s Point of View, which showcases documentary films.
2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the Ford Foundation's work in Latin America. As part of the celebration, the Ford Foundation, Ambulante, and PBS are seeking to spark dialogue around relevant issues to Mexican-U.S. bilateral relations through documentaries and films. They aim to create solid partnerships that will promote the collaboration between governments and institutions in order to achieve social change, while specifically shedding light on the causes of child migration and detention, arms trafficking, and lack of freedom of expression for journalists.
The joint project consists of a series of cross-border screenings, some of which will include a guest speaker or panel discussion following the film. For more information on the event, please click here.
