The squash blossom necklace has become synonymous with American Indian jewelry. Although its structure and ornamentation reflect Moorish and Spanish influence, it first appeared in the Americas among Navajo tribal creations. A variety of styles are on display in this exhibit curated by students from the Anthropology 341 Museology class, Spring 2011, under the direction of Alana Cordy-Collins, PhD. The exhibit designer was Juliana Gay, a 2002 graduate of USD with a BA in anthropology.

The May Gallery is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment.
