A reasonable understanding of finance could expand your career opportunities and enhance your value to an organization. This one-day program is designed for non-financial managers in any functional area within any industry. Your participation will allow you to master some tools of finance that will be immediately useful to you. It will also serve to build an appreciation for the financial impact of your business decisions and achievements.
- Learn why you need financial statements
- Learn how they impact your job and to your future resources
- Understand the structure and purpose of the three main financial statements filed by US companies
- Be able to assess the basic financial health of a company by conducting simple ratio analyses
- Be aware of current issues in financial reporting
- Learn easy techniques of valuation using Excel (bringing your laptop is highly encouraged)
Annalisa Barrett is a full-time lecturer in the Finance Department at the University of San Diego’s School of Business Administration. She teaches graduate courses in Corporate Governance and undergraduate courses in Financial Management, Financial Statement Analysis and Personal Finance. She was formerly vice president and senior research associate with The Corporate Library. She led the firm’s research related to board and governance practices. She has been quoted in numerous periodicals, including USA Today, Compliance Week, American Banker and the San Diego Business Transcript and her research has been featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. Barrett has an MBA, with distinction, from the University of Michigan Business School. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Corporate Directors Forum and Volunteers of America Southwest.
Shreesh Deshpande has been a member of the finance faculty at the University of San Diego since 1988. He is the Area Chair of Finance in the School of Business at USD. His primary interest is Corporate Finance and he teaches in the undergraduate, MBA and executive programs. He has been recognized for outstanding teaching and service by graduate students, undergraduate students and alumni. He has served on the Board of the San Diego chapter of the Financial Executives International. He has published refereed articles in the areas of corporate finance, international finance and derivatives and was a recipient of competitive external research grants. Dr. Deshpande has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA. He earned his PhD from Penn State.
The event fee is $345 per participant. Students, alumni and groups of three or more from the same organization are eligible for a $50/person discount.
