Energy issues are complex and often difficult to understand and industry leaders are constantly grappling with maintaining a balance in a volatile global oil market. Leaders in this arena are faced with critical decisions every day that involve long-range strategies in a fast-paced and often unpredictable environment. Speaker Biography

Dr. N.G. Kannan has spent over 37 years in India’s oil industry. He has held several prestigious leadership positions within Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., India’s largest corporation and its first on the Fortune 500 list. In his joint capacity as director of Marketing of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) and managing director of IBP Ltd. he handled a sales turnover of nearly $45 billion.  

His other leadership positions include: chairman of Indian Oil Mauritius Ltd., Indian Oil Petronas Ltd. and chairman of LPG Equipment Research Centre as well as board member of Indian Oil Tanking Ltd., a joint venture company between Oil Tanking Ltd. of Germany and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. Until recently he was the non-executive chairman of Lubrizol India Pvt Ltd., a joint venture company between Lubrizol (USA) and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. and the dean and advisor at The Institute for Technology and Management, (ITM) Chennai, a top-ranking business school. Dr. Kannan is currently a visiting faculty member at Indian Institute of Management (Trichy) and National Institute of Technology (Trichy). He is also on the governing council of Sudharsan group of institutions and strategy consultant.

Dr. Kannan is a strong advocate of life-long learning. He has an MBA in Marketing, a doctorate degree in Human Resource Management, an MA in Economics, an MSc in Physics, a Master of Commerce in Taxation, a Master of Philosophy in Management, as well as post-graduate diplomas in Human Resource Development and Training; Operations Research for Management; Electronic Data Processing; and Computer Management.
