International Women’s Day Breakfast:
Connect, Create, Celebrate
With Keynote by Filmmaker Maria Luisa Gambale
The Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice (IPJ) presents San Diego’s annual breakfast celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) and Women’s History Month. Join us as we honor the progress women are making in advancing human rights and peace with justice across the globe and here at home. Accenting this year’s U.N. theme of reaching out to rural women and the IPJ’s focus on women and media, you will see the power of two women, a singer and a film director, to cross class and cultural boundaries in Senegal.
Co-director Maria Luisa Gambale will show a portion of her 2011 award-winning documentary Sarabah – the story of singer, rapper and activist Sister Fa, “a hero to young women in Senegal and an unstoppable force for social change” – and discuss the positive role media and entertainment can play in advancing gender justice.
Join men and women activists and representatives from organizations throughout San Diego for an inspiring program, networking opportunities, a report back from the 56th U.N. Commission on the Status of Women and a delicious breakfast buffet.
Regular Ticket Prices (after March 1): $30, general admission; $15, students; $240, table of eight
Please note that tickets must be purchased online or by calling the IPJ at (619) 260-7873.
Tickets purchased on or after March 8th will not be mailed, but will be held at the registration desk in the IPJ Rotunda and available for pick-up the morning of the breakfast.
Allow time after the breakfast to visit “Architects of Peace,” an inspirational collection of peacemaker portraits and quotes from around the world. The exhibit is on display at the IPJ Fine Art Galleries through April 30, 2012.
