Newcomers to the world of American Indian jewelry are often astonished by its extraordinarily high quality, range of styles, and exotic materials. Born deep in prehistory, the art form today results from myriad pressures and opportunities, and continues to evolve. It is a dynamic and creative force in the continuing story of the artists’ way of perceiving life and culture, and expressing them to their audience. Alana Cordy-Collins, professor in the Anthropology Department and director of the David W. May American Indian Art Collection and Gallery will discuss the motivation behind the Gallery’s new exhibit, “Silver and Stones.” A walking gallery tour will be available for interested Bridges Academy members.
