This year, in an effort to allow honors students to participate in service in a more active way, the Honors Student Board has developed a philanthropy component for the Honors Program. Keeping with the tradition of academic excellence in the Honors Program, the HSB looked to create a philanthropy with the theme of “Students Helping Students.” As such, the HSB chose to donate funds to the Southern Sudanese Community Center -- an organization that provides support services for Southern Sudanese refugees and after-school tutoring and activities for their children located here in San Diego -- and to sponsor two students in Mbarara, Uganda, by funding their education for a year.
To raise money for these two causes, the HSB is hosting a Trivia Tournament. Teams of four can begin signing up in the Honors Office on March 21 for an entry fee of $30. The event is open to the entire campus, so feel free to include non-honors students on your team. The winning team will receive four tickets to Disneyland. Free food from JVs Taco Shop, a raffle with lots of prizes, and a DJ will make this night tons of fun.
Don’t want to be on a team but still want to come to the event and support the cause? Buy an entrance ticket for just $5 dollars (food included). Come support other students like you at the Honors Trivia Tournament.
