Traditionally trained as a poet, with an MFA in creative writing from San Diego State University, David Tomás Martínez claims among his friends professors and pimps and aspires to amalgamate the beauty of his inner city knowledge with the concrete lessons of the academy. He is a volunteer and contributor to The Voz Alta Project in historic Barrio Logan. He has had second stage consideration for The Ruth Lilly Award and Best New Poets of 2009. This year's publishing credits include San Diego Writer's Ink Vol. 3, Poetry International, Border Voices, and other publications.
“Martínez is gifted, not just as a writer of explosive, heartfelt and raw verse, but as a dynamic performer of spoken word poetry. His strong voice, his lean, ink-decorated body, and his handsome, expressive face all combine to transport, intrigue, and challenge the reader.” -- Jennifer Silva Redmond, editor-in-chief, Sunbelt Publications and Prose Editor of San Diego Writers, Ink's 2010 anthology A Year in Ink, Vol. 3.
Co-sponsored by Eta Zeta, the USD Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi (The National Collegiate Spanish Honor Society)
