Anza Borrego Desert
The ENVI 110 (Introduction to Earth System Science) classes will discuss the geology and tectonic evolution of the Peninsula Ranges Batholith and the adjacent Anza Borrego Desert.
Saturday will start with 2 stops in the mountains to discuss the origin of the batholith. Saturday afternoon, the class will hike Canyon Sin Nombre, located on the Elsinore Fault. Sunday will start with a drive to Borrego Springs and eventually to Fonts Point, overlooking the Borrego Badlands. Sunday afternoon will end with a hike up a beheaded alluvial fan along the Clark Fault, a strand of the San Jacinto Fault.
