The USD School of Business is hosting the 2020 Women on Boards National Conversation on Board Diversity on November 15 from 6 - 9 pm. This is a national event coordinated by a nonprofit organization that is held on the same date around the country to discuss the importance of board gender diversity, with the goal of increasing the percentage of corporate directors who are female to 20% by the year 2020. USD faculty and students can register at the nonprofit rate of $40.

At the San Diego event, you will learn about the new California law requiring companies headquartered in the state to have female directors (SB 826) and the current state of board diversity at San Diego public companies. You will also hear from experienced directors about their path to the boardroom and the benefits of having a diverse board. You will walk away with actionable ideas for enhancing your candidacy for corporate board seats and what the current focus on board diversity means for your company.

The event begins with a networking reception from 6 - 7 pm. The formal program will begin at 7 pm with welcome remarks, a presentation on the current state of women on boards of San Diego companies, and a discussion on SB 826. This will be followed by USD Lecturer in Finance Annalisa Barrett and the Women on Boards Panel, moderated by Teresa Jacques, Board Partner at Major Executive Search. The panel will cover topics such as the pros and cons of being a woman in the boardroom; best practices to ensure that the director candidate pipeline includes women; and how women and other diverse candidates can be considered for board service.

Panelists will include Kimberly Alexy, Director of FireEye, CalAmp, Five9, and Alteryx; Vickie Capps, Director of NuVasive, Otonomy, Connecture and OmniGuide; Denise Jackson, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary of AMN Healthcare and Director of Tractor Supply Company.

This event is sponsored by Mintz, Sempra Energy, Troutman Sanders and the University of San Diego School of Business.
