WECC Responsibilities
- Coordinating and promoting electric system reliability in the Western Interconnection
- Supporting efficient competitive power markets
- Assuring open and non-discriminatory transmission access among members
- Providing a forum for resolving transmission access disputes
- Providing an environment for coordinating the operating and planning activities of its members
Highlights
- RMS (Reliability Management System): entities voluntarily enter into contracts to abide by reliability criteria and violations can result in monetary sanctions. At the end of 2004, control areas serving 93 percent of customer load in WECC were subject to RMS.
