Atreyee Phukan teaches postcolonial and world literature. Her principal research interests lie in expressions of cultural and racial "hybridity" in anglophone Caribbean literature, which she examined in her dissertation on post-indenture Indo-Trinidadian literature. She also works on South Asian literature, and her work on the subject appears in the anthology, 19th and 20th Century World Writers (2004). Professor Phukan received her Ph.D. from the Program in Comparative Literature at Rutgers University in May 2006.
