Professional Societies

The USD Engineering Department has five professional societies. One for each of the engineering disciplines: IEEE, ASME, and IIE. In addition to these three societies there is the engineering honor society Alpha Pi My and Eta Kappa Nu as well as the Society of Women Engineers.

APM (Alpha Pi Mu) Alpha Pi Mu is the only nationally accepted Industrial Engineering honor society for Industrial & System Engineers.

ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) sets internationally recognized industrial and manufacturing codes and standards that enhance public safety.

ETA KAPPA NU, the USD Chapter of HKN, an International Honor Society for Electrical Engineers.

IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) is a non-profit, technical professional association which is a leading authority in a vast number of technical areas.

IIE (Institute of Industrial Engineers) is the world's largest professional society dedicated solely to the support of the industrial engineering profession and individuals involved with improving quality and productivity.

SWE (Society of Women Engineers) is a national not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.”
