Each Engineering student has an advisor who is, for freshmen, their preceptor who was their instructor for ENGR 101, or the faculty advisor to whom they were assigned after their freshman year or after they declared an engineering major. Any USD student majoring in engineering can find out who their academic advisor is by emailing email@example.com. Students wishing to enroll in engineering or who wish to declare their major who have not yet been assigned an advisor can write firstname.lastname@example.org or call (619) 260-4627 to get an advising appointment.
The Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) is the online software tool for charting a student's progress toward his/her degree. This system itemizes, against all degree requirements, all courses that have been taken, have received transfer credit, or are in progress. It is the responsibility of the student to work with his/her advisor to ensure that the DARS report accurately reflects the course requirements that the student has completed. Engineering students are encouraged to consult both their DARS record and the required course checklist for their engineering major. In addition, the standard pattern for each engineering major and flowchart provide information about the needed prerequisites and co-requisites for major requirements.
