A Tenured Full Professor and Chair of Electrical Engineering at the University of San Diego, Dr. Mikaya LD Lumori has research interests that include Gaussian beam modeling of electromagnetic field sources, applied electromagnetics, electromagnetic hyperthermia, ultrasonics (underwater acoustics and ultrasound medical applications), electronic packaging, and nonlinear/linear system identification. He has held research positions at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center (Tucson, Arizona), at University College London (London, England) and with the University of London, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine at the Medical Research Council Cyclotron Unit, Hammersmith Hospital (London, England).

Since 2007, Dr. Lumori has been a visiting research scientist/engineer with the Department of Electrical Engineering (Dept ELEC) at the Free University of Brussels (VUB), Brussels, Belgium. The research is in the area of nonlinear/linear system identification and technology, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Ir. Johan Schoukens, Chair of the Department and research group leader. This unsolicited position was at the behest of Professor Schoukens, and has been continuous every summer (June – August) since 2007.

Dr. Lumori's PhD research culminated in the development of the Gaussian Beam Model for Application to Electromagnetic Hyperthermia and Treatment Planning of Cancer Patients. This achievement resulted in job offers and consultancy engagements in research institutions that include: ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) in Rome, Italy; Haukland University Hospital, Bergen, Norway; VU University of Amsterdam Medical Center, Amsterdam, Holland.

Since 2016, Dr. Lumori has been involved in non-integer derivative system (NDS) research with a colleague, Dr Subramanian Shastri, and USD students. The goal of the research is application to fractional order control (FOC) of systems.

Dr. Lumori is a Senior Member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).
