Each year, another talented group of engineering students graduate from USD's Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering. Some go on to graduate school and some are quickly employed — in fact 98% are employed within six months of graduating.

Following is a sample selection of our alumni:


Federica Arriaga (ISYE) is a project engineer at Amazon's fulfillment center in San Bernardino, Calif.
Alyssa Black (ME) is working as an account manager for Clarity Design, Inc. in San Diego, Calif.
Orlando Crespo (ME) is designing optical equipment intended for use in developing countries for Clarity Design, Inc. in San Diego, Calif.
Brendan Gee (EE) is a an engineer under the new professionals program for SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific in San Diego, Calif.
Steven Go (ME) is working on the analysis of thermodynamic porperties of airplanes for United Technologies Aersopace Structures in Chula Vista, Calif.
Luis Toscano (ISYE) is in Guatemala working in supply chain management for McDonald's.


Nicholas Delgado (EE) is working as a manufacturing engineer for Clarity Design in Rancho Bernardo, Calif. and is also dancing for Culture Shock San Diego.
Harmonie Edelson (ISYE) is a sr. associate business excellence specialist in Thermo Fisher Scientific's (formerly Life Technologies) Operations Rotational Program. Her first rotation is in Global Planning.
Philip Hoskinson (ME) continues his energy related research through a Department of Energy fellowship, and is pursuing a MS in mechanical engineering at San Diego State University.
Whitney Robinson (EE) was hired as a project engineer at AMA Consulting Engineers in Los Angeles, Calif.


Stacy Castner (ME) is an affiliate engineer in Facility Engineering at Verizon Terremark in Miami, Florida.
Vanessa Donnelly (ME) is a system test and qualification engineer for General Atomics Aeronautical Systems in San Diego, Calif.
Christian Fetters (ME) was recently promoted to Deputy Program Manager at Alliant Techsystems (ATK). He is responsible for the technical, financial, and schedule performance of aerospace programs.
Clark Fleming (ME) is a residential PV designer for SolarCity in Redwood City, Calif.
Warren Putnam (EE) has received his MS in electrical engineering from Santa Clara University in June 2015 and started a position at Luxtera as a design engineer working in silicon photonoics.
Josh Schroeder (ISYE) is a logistics analyst with Zodiac Pool Systems in San Diego, Calif.
Colleen Sevier works as a mechanical engineer for General Atomics in Santee, Calif.


Martin de la Herran works for Telefonica Digital focusing on strategy for global cloud services in Spain.
Andrew David Disotell is an industrial engineer for General Atomics Aeronautical Systems in San Diego.
Leah Fairhead is an electrical engineer with Shell Oil/Motiva - Convent Refinery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Andrea Warren is an associate engineer at Cobham Defense Electronics in San Diego, Calif.
Matt Gigli (EE) started a new job as an LTE modern filmware engineer in June 2014. That same month he graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a master's in advanced studies in wireless embedded systems.


Brandon Blom (ME) is a senior engineer at Qualcomm in San Diego, Calif.
Ryan Boufford is a propulsion engineer at Boeing in Long Beach, Calif.
Tiara Chapel is a senior multi-discipline systems engineer with The MITRE Corporation in Arlington, Virginia.
David James Leyva is a mechanical engineer with Transaction Printhead Group in San Diego, Calif.
Tiffany Mendoza (ISYE) is an industrial engineer for General Atomics in San Diego, Calif.
Jenna Rohrbacker (ME) is a structural design engineer at Northrop Grumman in El Segundo, Calif.
Chase Michael Tushaus (ISYE) is a quality engineer in product validation at SpaceX in Los Angeles, Calif.
Casey Weiss (ME) is a design engineer in the R&D Irons Group at TaylorMade Golf Company in Carlsbad, Calif. He is excited to be learning more about design and the world of golf club manufacturing.


Lauren Cronin (ISYE) is a systems engineer at BAE Systems I&S, Rancho Bernardo, in San Marcos, Calif.
Matt Leigh (ME) received an MFA in recording arts and technology from Middle Tennessee State University in 2013. He works as the studio manager and head engineer at The Tracking Room, a world-class recording studio in Nashville, Tenn.
Rachael McKay (ISYE) is currently working as the only ‘engineer’ for the US distribution center of Lululemon Athletica.
Averi Thomas is a service support manager at Bloom Energy in Mountain View, Calif.


Karl Riesen (EE) was recently promoted to Manager of SOC Applications Group at Western Digital in Irvine, CA.
Rich Sanchez (EE) is with SPAWAR Systems Center — Pacific (Navy research lab) in San Diego where he works on satellite communication systems for military tactical and strategic forces. He graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with a Master of Science in Systems Engineering. He is also a founding member of the local MAES professional chapter; an outreach organization that promotes the development of STEM leaders in the academic, executive, and technical communities.


Jason Gasmin (ME) was recently promoted to a Manual Filtration Solutions Manager at Eaton in February. He is now responsible for managing a team of technical sales specialists, design engineers, and project coordinators for Eaton’s cast and bag filtration product lines.
Patrick Wijaya (ISYE) started his own company, Orion Prolight, a professional lighting, rigging and multimedia production company in his home country of Indonesia.


Ali Almatrouk (EE) is CEO of Makers, Inc. in Kuwait. He founded the company in 2009. He was recently elected as a Board Member for the American Business Council - Kuwait.
Hunter Barns (ISYE/History)finished more than seven years of active duty service as a naval submarine officer. In 2015, he started as a senior business analyst at the Washington, D.C. office of A.T. Kearney. In 2015, he graduated from Duke University's Pratt-School of Engineering with a master's degree in engineering management.


Joe Quiroz (ISYE ) reports that after speding the first eight years of his career at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems in Rancho Bernardo, Calif., he accepted a position as a project engineer at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems in Poway, Calif.


Erin Alex (formerly Fullinwider) (EE ) works at AMA Consulting Engineers in Los Angeles. Emerson College, a project on which Erin was the lead electrical engineer, recently won the grand prize at the Los Angeles Architects Awards.
Michelle Esteban (EE) recently accepted a new position with Hewlett-Packard as Patent Counsel in their legal department.


Melody Ablola (ISYE) was awarded an Arup University scholarship to attend the opening weekend of the 2014 Venice Biennale. This year's Biennale is entitled 'Fundamentals' and focuses on the evolution of architecture over the last 100 years. The prize allowed Melody and an architect partner to spend 3 days in Venice viewing the pavilions and exhibitions to discuss architectural design and to promote engineering collaboration. She continues to advise on operational performance and logistics at Arup.
Christian Caracoza (EE) is a systems engineer at Boeing and has an MBA from the University of Redlands.
Jared Smith (ISYE) earned his JD from UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco and joined the San Diego office of the law firm of Fish & Richardson.


Matthew Craig (ISYE) is Director of Meat and Seafood for Meijer, Inc. He recently joined the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering's new advisory board.
Andrew Putnam (EE) is the lead research engineer for Microsoft’s Catapult system, which provides a way to “massively increase the computing capabilities of its data centers,” according to a June 2014 article in The Register. The paper he contributed to that represents several years of work is entitled, “A Reconfigurable Fabric for Accelerating Large-Scale Datacenter Services.”
Joshua Sample (EE) in January 2014, he started Pathway Technical Sales, a sales firm.


Sue Hildebrand (EE) is working as a technical marketing engineer at Intel.


James Cena (EE) is currently stationed on a Norflok, Va.-based carrier. He was selected to the rank of commander in the Navy. He graduated with a master's in electrical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. 
Sally Mahdavi (EE) was promoted to Project Engineering Manager at General Atomics.
Ty Quan (EE) is an engineering portfolio manager for Forward Slope, Inc. in San Diego, Calif.
Ika Santoso (ISyE) works at Bank Central Asia where she is a credit card unit business officer.


Emiliano Gallego (ISYE) is General Manager at Pagasa, LLC, a leading pasta and cookie company based in Mexico that delivers its products throughout Mexico, the United States and Canada. He recently joined the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering's new advisory board.
Ricardo Valerdi (EE), Associate Professor of Systems and Industrial Engineering at the University of Arizona, recently started a company called the Science of Sport to work with professional sports teams to promote STEM education. So far, they’ve established Science of Baseball programs with MLB teams (Red Sox, Nationals, Diamondbacks, Padres, and Angels) and a Science of Soccer program with one MLS team (LA Galaxy).


Vu Lac (EE) is a field applications engineer with Laird Technologies. Laird provides electro-mechanical shielding products. He and his wife, Caroline, have a son, Aiden.


Commander Tom Mack (EE) has retired from the U.S. Navy and taken a position as technical director of San Diego operations for ManTech International Corporation.


Eric Malek (EE) began working for Boeing in 1995. He is a senior engineer/scientist and received his MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management in 2003.
Keith Resch (EE) has been at Sony in Rancho Bernardo since 1995, and was recently promoted to senior hardware manager.  


Don Jenkins (EE) was promoted to vice president of operations at ErnerNOC in Boston, Mass.
Derek Kranig (EE) is a senior electrical engineer at Innovative Laser Technologies in Minneapolis, Minn.  


Mauricio Lopez-Hodoyan (EE) is vice president of strategy and analysis of QCT (Chipsets). In 2014, he received the first Alumni Honors award from USD's Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering.
