Students’ Creativity Displayed at Engineering Open House

A mechanical engineering lab class doesn’t necessarily sound like the sort of place that makes dreams come true, but don’t tell that to Jeff Inlow.
“I’ve always wanted to have a guitar that I could say I made,” said Inlow ’11, a proficient guitar player. “To finally do it — it was $50 for the materials — and have the experience of making one is pretty awesome.”
He and Joe Emery ‘11 were all smiles as they strummed their acoustic instruments — made of poplar and spruce trees, respectively — during a Dec. 11 open house hosted by USD’s Engineering Department. The event showcased completed student projects and, for 2010 graduates, it was a chance to present preliminary information about senior capstone projects in electrical, mechanical, and industrial and systems engineering.
