1. What is Banner?
Banner is a suite of administrative software applications developed specifically for higher education institutions by Systems and Computer Technology Corporation (SCT).

3. What is the best way to find out what is going on with the project?

6. Who do I contact when I have a problem or question?
Questions and/or problems regarding the Banner systems may be submitted via email to the Banner Support Team at bliss@sandiego.edu. Information Technology staff will provide timely acknowledgement and responses to questions after seeking answers from the appropriate personnel working on the project. 

7.How do I change my monitor resolution?
In Banner, the standard form size is larger, allowing you to see more information on the screen and therefore, reducing the amount of scrolling. The default form size is set for a screen resolution of 1024 X 768 pixels. However, making this change will change the resolution for all other applications on your computer.

Banner

1. How do I start using Banner?
You can find detailed information on how to access Banner for the first time here.

2. How do I get a Banner INB Account?
Please fill out the AD&Banner User registration form.

3.What are the required specifications to run Banner INB?
Windows 2000/XP with at least 512 MB of Ram
Mac OS 10.2 (or higher) with at least 512 MB RAM running Safari 1.2.

4. What is JInitiator?
JInitiator is an Oracle implementation of Sun's JavaSoft Plug-in for Solaris. It is used for connectivity between a Windows based client and Internet Native Banner (INB) Forms. It is not required for use with Self Service Banner (web page based). Oracle redesigned the JavaSoft code to function specifically for Oracle Applications Forms. JInitiator is only for Windows based client machines.
When accessing Banner INB, if you do not have the JInitiator plug-in, you will be prompted to install it.

5.Why is JInitiator required?
JInitiator is used to run Java applets on a desktop client, and it provides a delivery mechanism that enables Internet Native Banner (INB) Forms to be run from within a browser in a stable and supported manner.

6. Will a pop-up blocker prevent the Jinitiator installation from launching properly?
A pop-up blocker may prevent plug-in installations from launching properly. Please disable any pop-up blocker before installing JInitiator.

7. Will a prior installed version of JInitiator cause problems when access INB?
On occasions, to get the most recent JInitiator to install properly, it has required uninstalling previous versions of JInitiator.

To uninstall a JInitiator go to:

  • Control Panel
  • Add or Remove Programs
  • Select the Program to remove
  • Click Remove

8.How do I change my password in Banner INB?
You may change your Banner password using the Oracle Password Change Form by navigating the main menu on Banner INB, or directly access GUAPSWD

Note: This will only change your password in the instance you are currently using. This will also not change your password for Oracle Self-Service.

9. How can I access Banner INB from off campus?
Banner INB can be accessed off campus through the Egate VPN account. For instructions in this matter, please contact the ITS Help Desk at x7900 on campus.

10. Issue 1: My browser (Internet Explorer 7) crashes when I access Banner INB
Solution: Uninstall any 3rd Party Toolbar (Google, Windows Live, Yahoo, Viewpoint). To uninstall a program, go to:

  1. Control Panel
  2. Add or Remove Programs
  3. Select the Program to remove
  4. Click Remove

Note: If this does not solve the problem, try Issues 2 or 3

11.Issue 2: My browser (Internet Explorer 7) crashes when I access Banner INB and Kronos is my homepage.
Possible Solution: Change your homepage to something different than Kronos.

Note: If this does not solve the problem, try 1 or 3

12.Issue 3: My browser (Internet Explorer 7) crashes when I access Banner INB
Possible Solution: Uninstall all Oracle Jinitator versions in the add/remove programs menu in the Control Panel. Restart your computer. Next, try logging into Banner INB again and it will prompt you to download the correct version of Jinitiator.

Note: If this does not solve the problem, try 1 or 2

13.Who do I call when none of this works?

14.My browser (Mozilla Firefox) will not connect to Banner
Solution: Mozilla Firefox is not supported by Banner. Use Internet Explorer 7

16. Is Microsoft Vista supported in INB?
No. It will most likely be supported with Internet Explorer 7 towards the end of 2007.

17. Where can I get the Oracle Development CDs?
The DBA group has access to these CDs.

18. What version of Oracle Database is Banner using?
10G

19.What development tools do we use on the Banner project?
SQL Plus – Free          
PLSQL – Licensed
SQL Developer – Free with Oracle Account

20. How can I receive additional Banner training?

21.Will the ITS Help Desk be a resource for the campus during the Banner implementation?
