USD Writing Center tutors help students improve their academic writing. Students are tutored individually by their peers in all phases of the writing process.

Math Center:
The Math Center provides peer tutoring to students in their lower level mathematics courses. The Math Center is free to USD students and is available on a walk-in basis during their office hours.

TRiO Student Support Services (SSS):
Student Support Services is a federally funded grant by the U.S. Department of Education to serve 160 eligible undergraduates at USD. The program provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with college requirements, and serves to retain and motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education at USD. To use SSS, you must apply. Visit their website for the application.
Eligibility:
- U.S. citizens or legal permanent resident
- Freshman, Sophomore or Junior status
- Enrolled USD students who are ONE of the following
- Low income (determined by Federal Income Guidelines)
- First generation (an individual both of whose parents, or whose only supporting parent did not complete a baccalaureate degree)
- Students with disabilities (students who have a documented disability and are registered with USD’s Disability Services)

Students on Academic Probation:
Freshman/Sophomore
- Freshman or Sophomore students placed on academic probation need to meet with a peer advisor through the Office of Student Learning Initiatives (OSLI). The peer advisors will conduct an advising session through which an academic assistance plan is created.
ALL STUDENTS ARE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM TO IMPROVE THEIR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE (See Below)
Junior/Senior
- Juniors or Seniors placed on academic probation are required to meet with a counselor at the Counseling Center before the end of the add/drop period to create an academic assistant plan. Students should go to the Counseling Center during Walk-in hours (M-F 11-3, or Wednesday, 11-5). (See below for Click here for Counseling Center information.
Office of Student Learning Initiatives:
The Office of Student Learning Initiatives professional staff and peer advisors conduct advising sessions to assist all freshmen and sophomores on academic probation with the development of an academic assistance plan. All students are welcome to participate in this program to improve their academic performance.

One Stop Student Center:
The One Stop Student Center is where students can access Financial Aid, Registrar, and Student Accounts in one location. Examples of their services include: registration and registration changes (add/drop classes), transcripts, enrollment verification, payments on your student account, assistance with financial aid questions, student account counseling, reviewing your DARS, FERPA, graduation petitions, and many other services.

Health and Wellness Resources:
Counseling Center:
The Counseling Center provides free, confidential, counseling services to enrolled students. Most students’ counseling needs can be readily addressed by the center’s professional staff, which includes psychologists, carefully selected and supervised trainees from doctoral programs in clinical and counseling psychology, and a contract psychiatrist.
The Counseling Center offers: Group therapy and support groups, individual counseling, psychological consultation, psychiatric consultation, and community referrals
Walk-in hours:
The easiest way to secure services is by coming to the center during walk-in hours. The following walk-in hours are available whenever undergraduate classes are in session (when classes are not in session, call the center confirm walk-in schedule).

Center for Health and Wellness Promotion:
Mission Statement: We serve the USD community through educational opportunities, outreach events, individual and group services, campus-wide programs, and research initiatives to enhance student wellness.
The Center for Health and Wellness Promotion strives to increase students' knowledge, facilitate their motivation to change unhealthy behaviors related to alcohol and other drug (AOD) use, and to reduce the risk of personal and community harm secondary to AOD use. The Center for Health and Wellness Promotion provides individual clinical consultations, assessment, education, 12-step facilitation and support, and referrals.
