Catholic Social Thought

Drop Shadow

Catholic Social Thought is a rich heritage of wisdom and a living tradition of the Church's commitment to work for a just and peaceful society. Concerned about the moral quality of social life, this tradition expresses the Church's understanding of society and continuously explores the social demands of the Catholic faith.

At the core of Catholic Social Thought is a set of moral principles, criteria for judgment, coherent values, and orientations for action to inform and guide personal choices to promote greater social justice.

The Catholic Social Thought initiative at USD is one of four strategic directions initiatives proposed by President Mary Lyons in 2004. This initiative was created to inform a respectful dialogue about these principles and express the Catholic identity of the university.

In support of this initiative, we have created this website where students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the University of San Diego community can learn about Catholic Social Thought teachings, how they can get involved, and where to go to learn more about it. We invite you to take the time to look around our site and join our community. As a place for you to start, we have posted a calendar of events at USD this month that are related to Catholic Social Thought below.
