Role & Responsibilities
Student leaders ... link with faculty to provide service learning information and to offer support to their classmates. They enroll in a field experience leadership seminar to enhance their theoretical understanding and practical skills.
So, what does a Student Leader really do?
Facilitate student placement at sites by preparing schedules as needed and student participation in site orientations.
Maintain ongoing communication with the student site coordinators at each of the sites your class visits or, if the site does not have a coordinator, maintain communication directly with the site contact person.
Gain feedback from students in the class and contribute to the development of the program by providing meaningful information to the Office for Community Service Learning.
Support students and faculty involved in Community Service Learning by being available for problem solving and by maintaining open lines of communication between faculty, students, site coordinators, and community partners.
Facilitate reflection in conjunction with faculty that links course content to service activities.
Complete additional specific tasks for your class as agreed upon.
And what are some things a good student leader will remember?
To meet on a weekly basis with their Office for Community Service Learning mentor.
To check their mailbox in the Office for Community Service Learning on a regular basis--at least once per week.
To meet with their faculty member on a regular basis.
