October 13-16, 2005
Questions around immigration loom large in our world and surely in the San Diego-Tijuana region. Perspectives on how to address these questions vary widely and feelings often run high. In order to bring these diverse perspectives together in search of common ground, sponsoring organizations from the University of San Diego and the San Diego community, including the Catholic Diocese, Border Angels, and the San Diego Youth and Community Services, will host a three-day conference on immigration policy reform. The purpose of this conference is to raise public awareness of current initiatives to reform U.S. immigration policy and to consider the ethical concerns that surround this conversation by drawing on values reflected in Catholic Social Thought and the U.S. and Mexican Bishops' statement on migration, "Strangers No Longer." Multiple and contrasting perspectives on the topic will be represented by notable speakers and individuals with relevant experience in order to promote dialogue and critical assessment of the key challenges related to immigration. Please add your voice to our dialogue.
