As we reach the 20th anniversary of the Social Issues Conference and the 60th anniversary of the University of San Diego, we reflect with community members who have worked towards peace and justice. We also examine how local and international development can sustain justice and support people living in poverty. |

KEYNOTE ADDRESS – Paul Farmer, M.D., Ph.D.

Medical Anthropologist and physician Dr. Paul Farmer has dedicated his life to treating some of the world’s poorest populations and, in the process, has helped raise the standard of health care in underdeveloped areas of the world. Dr. Farmer is the founding director of Partners In Health, an international charity organization that provides direct health care services and undertakes research and advocacy activities on behalf of those who are sick and living in poverty.
Paul Farmer is the subject of Tracy Kidder’s book, Mountains Beyond Mountains.
