Volunteer Opportunities

The following are six different types of service opportunities available at USD.   Many of these opportunities are open to any member of the USD community including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff employees, administrators, and alumni.

1. CASA (Center for Awareness, Service, and Action )

3. Social Issues Committee

The Social Issues Committee combines the energy and talent of faculty, students, staff, administrators, and community members to expand awareness and facilitate action concerning pressing social issues. Since it was established in 1984, Social Issues Committee activities include sponsorship of speakers, public forums, essay contests, theme courses and conferences. 4. Placements in Community Agencies

Individuals who are interested in working in the San Diego community are referred to local agencies and schools that have volunteer opportunities. Some examples of the listings available are:

• ARTS - Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego Historical Society
• ENVIRONMENT - I Love A Clean San Diego, Project Wildlife, People For Trees
• HEALTH - AIDS Foundation, Children's Hospital, San Diego Hospice

5. Group Projects

Groups, clubs, and organizations also make requests for community service opportunities.   We have updated lists of current one time group events needing many volunteers as well as agencies who are interested in groups wishing to make longer term commitments.   Some examples are:

6. Post Graduate Domestic and International Opportunities

The "Adventures in Service" fairs are held every semester for long term service opportunities for a summer, year, or longer.   Representatives of domestic and international volunteer organizations visit campus in the spring and include: AmeriCorps, the Peace Corps, the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, and VISTA.
