To Alumni, Faculty, Staff, Community partners and friends:
We welcome your memories and thoughts about how Judy personally, the Social Issues Committee, service-learning, or community service have had an impact on you. Recently Judy and I developed a project together she was passionate about. She wanted to interview alumni who had been in the USD Community Service-Learning program and discover how they felt this had affected their lives. We knew from national level research that these become significant and formative experiences, but we wanted some first-hand data from USD alumni.
In a survey done in Spring 2008, responses showed that USD alumni credited the service with helping make career choices, motivating them to continue community work in various forms, and that they acknowledged deep personal changes. In initial interviews, our respondents pointed to service experiences that served as turning points in their lives.
Besides the basic questions on what you did in college and what you do now, we want to ask: “If you could tell a story that typifies your experience, what would it be? As you reflect on your experience, how did it change your view of the world, your approach to work, or your participation in the community? How do those experiences weave into your life today?”
We invite you to share your thoughts and responses.
