Assistant Director for Community Engagement
Maria Silva is the Assistant Director for Community Engagement for the Center for Community Service Learning at the University of San Diego (USD). Maria works with faculty who integrate service learning to their courses, connecting them with community organizations where their students can collaborate. A lot of her time is dedicated to building relationships with community partners in order to create meaningful experiences for faculty and students. Maria is an alum of USD, where she did a lot of work related to immigration; as Program Director she also facilitates Border Immersion experiences for students.
Maria came to USD after working at the San Diego Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), a Community Development Financing Institution with presence across the United States. She is also a graduate of the Americorps Program, where she served as Community Advocate at Bayside Community Center.
Maria has a strong background in service both locally and abroad. Before earning her degree, she ran an education program in a rural village in Mexico. She is committed to community building both off and on campus.
