Information for Faculty Mentors
A: No, your student collaborator will submit the abstract electronically. He/she will identify you as the faculty advisor for the project. A: Yes. A: Yes. This conference will be a good opportunity to prepare for his/her formal Honors thesis project presentation. A: The format will be determined by your specific discipline. Use your field's standard conference presentation guidelines for preparing your poster. All posters should include faculty sponsor name and department, the student(s) name(s), and the title of the project. Each poster board space will be 4 feet x 4 feet. A: It is a good idea to give the student a general idea of what an undergraduate conference will entail. Click here for a schedule of events on the day of the conference. Encourage your student to be able to give a 5-minute summary of the project. For students who are presenting projects that use technical concepts or terms, encourage your student(s) to be able to explain these ideas in non-discipline specific terminology. Brainstorm possible questions that the attendees might ask. Also encourage your students to thoroughly read the Creative Collaborations website for additional information (e.g., appropriate attire) for students (link on "students") on the day of the conference. A: On the poster, your student can insert a statement of acknowledgement including the name of the funding source and the name of the indivudal who received the grant. A: Although you are encouraged to attend the conference, it is not required. Your primary role will be in preparing your student for the presentation. A: Please see (Conference Schedule). A: Although the goal of the conference is the same (i.e., to present student-faculty works), this conference has been expanded to include all student-faculty collaborative projects at USD. This year, in addition to posters based on scientific work, additional collaborative projects will showcase art, music, and theater, to name a few. A: Please encourage your students and colleagues to attend the conference by making announcement and posting a sign (Creative Colloraborations 2008 flyer) outside your office to encourage participation and attendance.
