Friednash graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1987 where he participated in the academic program at the Center for Public Interest Law. Later he received the Outstanding Graduate award from the University of San Diego Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Following law school, Friednash worked on the Dukakis Presidential Campaign in 1987-1988 and then returned to Colorado to work in the Colorado Attorney General’s Office-Criminal Enforcement Section. In 1992, Friednash was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives where he served two terms representing Southeast Denver. He also handled complex commercial litigation and government relations in the private sector as a shareholder in the law firms of Greenberg Traurig and Brownstein Hyatt Farber Shreck. 

Friednash was appointed and sworn in as Denver City Attorney on August 15, 2011.  In 2015, Friednash became the Chief of Staff to Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper.  He is currently a member of the University of San Diego School of Law Alumni Association.
