2013-2014 Idea Labs Series

During the 2013-2014 academic year the Center for Peace and Commerce hosted eight Idea Labs to help prepare students for success as social innovators. Idea Labs employ a variety of methodologies including speakers, workshops, panels, and coaching sessions to expose students to real-world social innovation and connect them with successful social entrepreneurs.

Idea Lab 8: Pitch Rehearsal for SIC Finalists

Idea Lab 7: Speed Coaching

Social Innovation Challenge semi-finalists received coaching from industry experts. Students had ten minutes each with 5-6 different coaches to pitch their project and receive feedback. The social entrepreneur's version of speed dating!

Idea Lab 6: Pitch Deck Coaching

Idea Lab 4: Ideas Meet Reality

Idea Lab 3: Business Model Design

November 12, 2013, 11:00am-3:00pm
Students gained skills and tools for creating a social business plan, and learned about different options for how to build their social venture. Guest speakers helped students develop their ideas further, and discussed different options including whether to make the venture for-profit, nonprofit, or hybrid.

Idea Lab 2: Defining Problems, Visualizing Solutions

Professor Patricia Marquez hosted "Inside the Entrepreneur's Studio" where guest entrepreneurs shared their experiences about how they launched their social ventures based on problems they saw and solutions they envisioned. Guests discusses the challenges and lessons learned along the way.

Idea Lab 1: Inspire
