Program Overview

The Compliance Program is dedicated to furthering the mission of the University of San Diego while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and university policies.

The university’s Compliance Program is comprised of four key elements:

1) Governance and Administrative Oversight

The Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees exercises reasonable oversight of the Compliance Program. At the administrative level, the Compliance Oversight Committee is responsible for the development and implementation of the university’s Compliance Program and will make reports to the President and to the Audit Committee about the Compliance Program and individual compliance matters. Its members include representatives from across the university who have significant compliance responsibilities.

2) Code of Ethics

The University of San Diego’s Code of Ethics describes the commitment of the university to the highest ethical standards of honesty and integrity. This Code is an integral component of the university’s Compliance Program and is designed to promote compliance with applicable laws and regulations, as well as the prevention and detection of violations of applicable laws and regulations.

3) The Compliance Matrix – Delegation of Compliance Responsibilities

Each member of the university community plays a role in ensuring that the university conducts its activities and operations in a manner that complies with applicable laws, regulations and policies. Some individuals by virtue of their position at the university are expected to be knowledgeable of and responsible for specific compliance activities.  The Compliance Matrix identifies those individuals and their respective responsibilities.

4) Confidential Reporting

Members of the university community are encouraged to discuss compliance-related questions or concerns directly with their supervisors, department chairs, deans, directors, vice presidents, Human Resources, the University Auditor, or other members of the university administration. The university also has established the University of San Diego Incident Reporting Helpline, a confidential reporting mechanism, operated by a third party.
