Farewell Tom Cleary, 1962-2018

Tom Cleary

With great sadness we share the news that Thomas Cleary passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.  Before being diagnosed with brain cancer this past summer, Tom served for over 13 years as USD’s beloved senior director of Community and Government Relations.

Tom left an indelible impact on the community of San Diego and the university. His professional relationships were extensive and helped to open doors, encourage dialogue and demonstrate USD's commitment to the community. He was an advocate of Linda Vista and served on several local volunteer boards, his tireless commitment affecting the lives of its residents.

Mayor Falconer commented on Tom’s proficiency as an ambassador for USD and he was recently recognized by Assemblywoman Shirley Weber and the San Diego City Council for his service to the community. Our prayers are with Tom’s wife and their three children during this difficult time.
